Do your customers like to tell you how they could perform on the biggest football stages of them all?
Maybe after a drink or two they think they’ve got the attributes of Ronaldo, Neymar or Messi.
Well, they have the chance to prove it with the return of the BT Sport Pub Cup.
Now in its second year, the competition gives pub football teams the chance to compete at some of the best football grounds in the country – and your team could be involved.
In fact, you don’t even need a team. You can create a new one in the name of your local BT Sport pub to enter now.
In April, we will pick the teams taking part out of the hat in a live draw ahead of the tournament getting underway this spring.
Those picked will compete in regional seven-a-side heats between May 10 and 17 at the following grounds:
- Loftus Road, QPR, May 10
- Goodison Park, Everton, May 11
- The Hawthorns, West Brom, May 14
- Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth, May 15
- Easter Road, Hibernian, May 16
- Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday, May 17
The teams that make it through will then compete at our brand new Festival of Football at St George’s Park National Football Centre in Burton upon Trent over the weekend of May 21-22
Two finalists will emerge, and they will go head-to-head in front of the BT Sport cameras at The King Power Stadium, home to the former champions of England, Leicester City, on June 2.
And the two pub teams that make it to the centrepiece will be treated as if they were Premier League superstars. They will be given five-star treatment at the stadium and coached by BT Sport pundits Robbie Savage and John Hartson.
The winning team will receive a free BT Sport subscription for the year and £5,000 of equipment for their pub, as well as the glory of being the Pub Cup Champions.
What’s more every team that makes it to the main draw will be provided with a new playing kit – supplied by Pro-direct.
Bruce Cuthbert, director commercial customers, BT Sport, said: “We were overwhelmed by the success of the BT Sport Pub Cup last year and I’m delighted that it is returning bigger and better in 2018. Pubs are at the heart of their community and we want to help them thrive by giving their football teams the chance of a Premier League experience and to give something back to their local.
“We will be promoting this tournament across the BT Sport channel and social media platforms together with a national marketing campaign encouraging as many teams as possible to get to their local, speak to their landlord and sign up!”
Not only does the tournament give pub players the chance to show their skills on some of the finest surfaces in the country but it also highlights the importance of pubs to the grass roots game – click here to learn more about how supporting an amateur football team can benefit your business.
Along the way we will be featuring pubs that have previously competed – including last year’s winners The Liver Vaults – and we will reveal how you can make the most of your own pub football team, so keep checking these pages for the latest information.
But for now, make sure you register your interest in taking part, so you can enjoy the magic of the BT Sport Pub Cup.
