Pubs and players help launch this year’s tournament
Pub players and licensees have helped launch Pub Cup 2022 by starring in our promotional video.
To launch this season’s tournament – which gives grassroots men’s and women’s teams the chance to go all the way from the pub to Wembley – we visited former participants to kick things off.
And players appeared to revel in the chance to perform on camera.
Megan Coulter, representing the Longman in Brighton, said: “It’s been really fun and exciting and a bit daunting but a great thing to do. We can’t wait to play in the tournament now. If we ended up at Wembley it would be amazing for us all.”
John Munro, licensee at The Two Boats in Long Itchington, Warwickshire, also enjoyed the moment in the spotlight.
“We are so proud of the way the ladies represent us and we are sure they will make their mark on the tournament. It’s unusual for us to have the cameras here but really exciting and hopefully lots of people will see it locally and support the team.”
The promo shows the vital link between grassroots football teams and their pubs, all played out to a variation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic poem If.
And if you want to enter this season’s Pub Cup the time to do it is now.
We have spaces for 64 men’s and 64 women’s teams in our seven-a-side heats at the following locations:
- Manchester City’s Etihad campus, Sunday 12th June
- Crystal Palace’s Training complex, Thursday 16th June
- Oriam, Scotland’s National Performance Centre, Saturday 2nd July
- Cardiff City’s House of Sport, Saturday 9th July (women) and Sunday 10th July (men)
From each heat, two winners from both the men’s and women’s tournaments will progress to an 11-a-side semi-finals day back at the Etihad Campus.
The winner will go from there to the Pub Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Friday 18th November.
Entry is open to football teams representing an existing BT Sport pub.
You could have an established team or start a new one for the Pub Cup. If you are having trouble getting a side together our friends at Find A Player can help you out.
You can apply to enter a men’s and a women’s team for your pub. Entries are open between May 4th to May 25th at 4pm.
The draw will be made at random and the successful applicants notified on Thursday 26th May.
The teams that make it into the tournament will be fully kitted out with a Puma strip for their squad to collect from the pub.
Pubs will also be sent an entry kit and will be in with the chance of winning free BT Sport for their pub for the year and £1,000 to spend in the BT shop.
So if you fancy your chances of going all the way from the pub to Wembley, register now at btsporthub.co.uk/pub-cup-2022.
