Prepare to pack the pub with huge European nights

Six Premier League sides go for glory in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League

Ronaldo’s heroics, City going goal crazy and Manchester United’s last gasp VAR assisted winner in Paris.

The last 16 of the Champions League provided enough drama and storylines to drive business and disbelieving conversations in pubs, bars and clubs up and down the country.

And now we have more live and exclusive action to look forward to on BT Sport with the quarter finals coming up fast.

Four Premier League teams remain in the mix at this stage for the first time in a decade – and two more have high hopes in the Europa League.

At least one English semi-finalist is guaranteed and there may well be more. What is certain is that the UEFA Champions League is going to deliver yet more memorable nights for the UK on-trade.

Spurs v Man City

An all English tie seemed inevitable with four English balls in the bowl on draw day. And so it proved. City will have memories of going out at this stage last season to a red hot Liverpool and they will be determined not to fall to a familiar foe again. The first leg will be a huge night in North London with Spurs set to play the game at the new stadium they have been desperate to move to all season. They’ll want to take a lead to Manchester to give them any realistic chance of progression.

City remain on course for an unprecedented quadruple but Spurs could scupper their hopes. These sides will meet three times in little over a week with a league game scheduled for Sunday April 20th.

City and Spurs are the only sides left in the Champions League who have never won the trophy.

Liverpool v Porto

Whisper it but Liverpool were probably the happiest of the English sides with the draw. After such a comprehensive victory against Bayern Munich in the last round they should be confident of getting past Porto. The Portuguese champions cruised through one of the easier looking groups before Roma took them to extra-time. Liverpool will be a tough test but anything is possible in the Champions League. Remember 2004 when a little-known fellow named Mourinho took Porto all the way, and 2005 when Liverpool came back from the dead to beat AC Milan? Both sides will be looking to write more Champions League history.

Ajax v Juventus

These two sides both came from behind in spectacular fashion to win through to the last eight. Nobody will underestimate Ajax after they knocked holders Real Madrid out with a comprehensive victory at the Bernebeu. Of course, one man who has won four Champions League titles with Los Blancos remains very much in the competition. Ronaldo did it again with a hat-trick against Atletico to take Juventus through. Nobody would bet against him having a huge say in how this tie pans out or adding to his astonishing record of 124 Champions League goals.

Manchester United v Barcelona

After a 2-0 defeat against PSG at Old Trafford, there were not many who gave Man United a chance of reaching this stage. But after that stunning injury time penalty in Paris here they are in what is arguably the most glamorous tie of the round. The last two times these sides met have been in Champions League finals, with Messi inspiring the Catalans to victory on both occasions. That said, United and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have great memories of the Nou Camp. His famous winning goal against Bayern Munich was notched in that stadium 20 years ago. A win for United could set up a potential blockbuster with Liverpool in the semis.

Europa League

Arsenal v Napoli

Arsenal will have to do it the hard way if they are to win a first European trophy. They face one of the favourites in the Serie A side.

Slavia Prague v Chelsea

Chelsea will be confident of getting past the Czech outsiders to stay on course for another European final and the chance of getting back into the Champions League.
