Live the dream with your pub team and enter the Pub Cup now for the chance to play at Wembley Stadium
The greatest grassroots football competition of them all is back, giving pub players the opportunity to live out their Premier League football fantasies.
After a pandemic-enforced absence, BT Sport’s Pub Cup is returning to re-unite pubs with players – and this time we’re on the way to Wembley.
This season the format will be a 7-a-side tournament from start to finish, with 64 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams gunning for glory.
After two epic semi-final days at Premier League training facilities our finalists will head to Wembley not long after Euro 2020 to play for the Pub Cup title, free BT Sport for a year for their pub and £1,000 to spend at the BT Shop.
It’s an experience and an opportunity that grassroots players would run through a brick wall for.
So what are you waiting for?
Here are the steps on the road to Wembley…
Step 1: Be BT Sport Ready
To be eligible for entrance to the Pub Cup you must be a BT Sport business customer. If you’re not, that’s easily remedied. Check out our options here.
Step 2: Link with a local team
You need a football team to enter the Pub Cup – it could be either men’s or women’s but it is only one entry per venue.
Perhaps you already sponsor a grassroots team, or a team uses you as their clubhouse after games?
If not, you could have a word with the group who come in after a five-a-side kickabout to see if they fancy swapping the park for a pro set-up.
Or maybe you fancy yourself as a bit of a baller and want to lead a team of locals in the tournament.
Another option is using the Pub Cup as an opportunity to forge links with a local team.
Whatever route you take, you just need to register a team with a squad of up to 12 men or women who are available on the dates of the semi-finals.
Whoever you go with will relish the chance you are giving them and should bring people through your doors for years to come.
Step 3: Enter
The deadline for entry is 23:59 on June 18.
Step 4: Over to us
Once registration is complete, we will hold a draw to randomly select our 80 entrants. If you are one of the lucky ones, we will let you know as soon as we can.
Step 5: Kitting you out
All teams that make it into the semi-final events will be provided with a full kit for the competition. This is to avoid any potential clashes. We might also have a few more goodies heading your way, so keep an eye out for any deliveries.
Step 6: Heading north to Manchester City
The semi-final events will be held in the South and the North. You will be informed which event your team will play at.
After an incredible experience in the last Pub Cup in 2019, we are heading back to Manchester City’s Etihad Campus on July 18 for our North semi-final day. It will feature 32 men’s teams and eight women’s teams.
There will be a tournament format with the winning men’s side and the winning women’s’ side progressing to the final at Wembley.
Step 7: Heading south to Bisham Abbey
The next events will take place at the former England training ground Bisham Abbey across two days with the men's event taking place on July 24 and the women's on July 25 July 24. Again, 32 men’s teams and eight women’s teams will battle it out for the chance to play at Wembley against the North champions.
Step 8: Wembley Way
Four talented pub teams will win their way to Wembley to play in the Pub Cup 2021 finals on August 8. Teams will play in an extended 11-a-side match on the hallowed turf to win glory, free BT Sport for a year for your pub, £1,000 to spend at the BT shop – and memories that will last a lifetime.
Step 9: Back to your place
Once the journey is over it will be time for those who took part in the Pub Cup to head back to yours to talk about their magical moments playing at some of the best football facilities in the country. The Road to Wembley should just be the beginning…
