The festive period is renowned for being a defining part of the Premier League season, and this year there are more presents to offer your customers than ever before.
Prime Video has the rights to 20 Premier League games next month and the only way pubs and clubs can show them is with an Amazon Premier League pass from BT Sport.
There are some real Christmas crackers on offer on the dates of December 3, 4 and 5 as well as Boxing Day and Friday December 27. There’s a Merseyside derby, Spurs travelling to Old Trafford and a top of the table clash between Leicester and Liverpool.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Every team plays twice and you can see the full fixture list here.
What’s more, BT Sport customers who sign up before December 21 are eligible for a 20 per cent discount.
The most difficult decision you may have to make is choosing what games to screen in your business.
Simon Terry, a BT Sport Manager of the Month winner for his work at the Samson Blewitt in Hednesford, Staffordshire, has already signed up.
He said: “I’m going to get the general feel of what everyone wants. We have a lot of Wolves fans and they are playing West Ham (Wednesday December 4, 7.30pm), there are also a lot who will want to watch Liverpool against Everton (December 4, 8pm) and we have Villa fans as well (Chelsea v Aston Villa, December 4, 7.30pm).
“We have got two boxes so we will show a couple of them but we will see what the customers want.
“The Wolves game against Manchester City on December 27 is another opportunity for us.”
He added that showing the games could work well at the pub because he has a customer base that is less likely to have Amazon Prime at home. According to Mintel, around 39 per cent of UK consumers have home access to Prime.
“A lot of our customers are slightly older and are less likely to have Amazon Prime, so this could be the only way they will see the games,” said Simon.
“It’s always busy at this time of year but this is another way to bring people in.”
Another Manager of the Month winner, Toby Robinson, is also expecting to pull in a crowd at The Cove, in Hope Cove, Devon, over Christmas with the extra fixtures.
“We will do it on a supply and demand basis and see which games customers want to watch. It might be that we have a bit of fun with it and have a vote or do something on social media to give people the chance to choose the matches we show.
“We have two boxes and it can be good fun showing two different games because people like to see what’s going on with the other game at the same time. There can be some banter between the two sets. It is something we have done with BT Sport on Champions League nights and it is something we will do again with this.”
He added that he expects the matches to help The Cove have a strong December.
“Sometimes people need an excuse to get out of the house and this can be a way of getting them away from the settee.”
