The year ahead on BT Sport

With title races, cup finals, mega fights and much more, BT Sport can bring customers through your doors to enjoy the glory of sport in 2019

A new year is here and with it comes resolutions, expectations… and a tonne of sport to keep all of your customers entertained.

Whether your regulars are open to #TryJanuary and new experiences or are keeping off the harder stuff as part of #DryJanuary, there is plenty of big screen action to go with their beers or their lime and sodas.

Over the next few months, games will be won and lost, dreams realised and shattered, and pints will be drowned in sorrow or swilled in jubilation.

Here’s a selection of what’s coming up for you and your customers on BT Sport in 2019.

UEFA Champions League

Pub quiz question. Who was the last Premier League manager to win the Champions League? Too easy? It was of course Roberto Di Matteo with Chelsea, just a few months before London went all Olympics crazy.

Last season, Liverpool became the first finalists from these shores since 2012. Can they or one of Spurs, Manchester United or Manchester City go one step further this year?”

It’s going to be nothing short of enthralling finding out and should result in packed pubs and clubs all the way to the final in Madrid on Saturday June 1. Between now and then we will be bringing you every kick in every game, starting with the Round of 16 in February.

The Champions League is a guaranteed crowd-puller on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, so make sure you let your customers know it’s on by using our social assets and PoS.

Man City’s recent win over Liverpool looks to have set-up one of the tightest title races for years. Between now and the final day of the campaign on May 12 we will bring you live action that will have an impact on the fight for the title, European places and the battle to remain the Premier League.

Best of the rest

The title race north of the border looks like it’s going to the wire too with Rangers and Celtic level-pegging and Kilmarnock and Aberdeen just a couple of points further back. We bring you live league action from Scotland as well as from Germany and France. Plus we have more cup football from home and Europe with the Emirates FA Cup and the Europa League.

Gallagher Premiership

The title race in the Gallagher Premiership looks every bit as close as in football’s Premier League.

For Man City and Liverpool, read Saracens and Exeter Chiefs. They are all but guaranteed to finish first and second and could well meet again in the season’s showpiece game at Twickenham.

We’ll have live action from every round of fixtures between now and the final itself on June 1.

Champions Cup

Here’s a strange stat for you. Since 2010 the winner of the Champions cup has managed to defend the title at least once. It started with Leinster, carried on with the Jonny Wilkinson inspired Toulon and then passed on to Saracens. With that in mind, current champs Leinster will be confident of becoming the first side to win five trophies.

We’ll bring you live action of every round up to and including the final at Newcastle’s St James Park.”

Plus, BT Sport is also home to the European Challenge Cup.

If you are not a rugby pub, this month could be the ideal time to introduce it as part of #TryJanuary. There should be a few five-pointers to enjoy over the coming weeks. Make sure you use social assets, like below, to promote the fixtures.

Boxing and UFC

Boxing provided some of the sporting moments of 2018. We saw Tyson Fury’s incredible comeback and also saw the rise of a new champion in Josh Warrington. His IBF defence against Carl Frampton was the fight of the year for many boxing experts and fans.

There will be more of the same throughout 2019. Check our website for updates.

We’ll also be bringing you all UFC numbered and Fight Night events thanks to a recently signed new TV deal as we follow the fortunes of the likes of former two-weight world champion Conor McGregor and British welterweight sensation Darren Till. BT Sport has been the home of UFC since our launch in 2013 and it will continue through 2019 and beyond.
